Glossier is quickly becoming the it girl skincare brand. It’s everywhere, and I am not surprised because they have built a massive following over the last few years from their beauty website Into The Gloss. I’m personally a loyal reader of the beauty site. It’s been my daily go to for everything beauty; I love reading stories and getting tips from the ultra cool girls/guys they feature, along with the community they’ve built of beauty obsessed ladies like myself. Their website is so entertaining and very inspirational!!
Call me crazy but when Glossier was first announced, I was kind of hesitant. Look, I know they have gathered a ton of beauty knowledge over the years, and it is a genius concept, but for some reason I couldn’t embrace Glossier with my arms wide open.
After a long period of hemming and hawing, I randomly decided to check out what they had to offer. My first “wish list” item was Glossier’s Milky Jelly cleanser, which promises to be the ultimate daily face wash. I watched the videos and read as many reviews as I could, but I decided to hold off buying the cleanser until I ran out of my DHC Cleansing Oil. Well that day came and since I was already going to buy their Haloscope highlighter, I decided to give Milky Jelly a try.
At first glance the packaging is beautiful! It just screams minimalist cool. Also looks great on sitting in my medicine cabinet!
The cleanser is supposed to be used on dry skin to melt away makeup and other dirt and grime or wet skin if you want to cleanse in the morning. The instructions online say 2-3 pumps (which is a lot), which means you will use this up very quickly!
The first time I used Milky Jelly was at night to remove my makeup. I used 2 pumps and massaged over dry skin and on my eyes. After massaging until I couldn’t massage anymore, I splashed my face with water and massage the product into my skin some more and then rinsed with water.
Off the bat I noticed it did a pretty good job removing my mascara. The cleanser is very smooth on the skin, the scent is minimal and it’s very gentle on the eyes! Since I was following my usual routine, I followed the cleanse with Bioderma to make sure my makeup was completely removed and noticed that my cotton pad was pretty dirty looking. I was really surprised and a little disappointed. Honestly, I thought that maybe I cleansed wrong, or maybe I didn’t massage enough, so the next night I tried again and the results were the same.
I am so bummed!! I have been using Milky Jelly every night for a few weeks now, and each time I have not been able to get a clean first pass. The amount of makeup left after cleansing means that double cleansing in the evening is a must!
To sum it up…
- It takes off mascara very easily! Taking mascara off at night is my least favorite thing to do and this makes slightly easier.
- It’s very gentle on the eyes. Being a contact wearer, gentle eye makeup remover is a necessity and I love that my eyes aren’t irritated after using!
- My skin isn’t as clean with the 1st round of cleansing and double cleansing is required. With all honesty, some nights I am really lazy and it’s hard enough to cleanse 1x let alone having to double cleanse; it’s become a bit of a chore.
- A small amount will not do, it requires several pumps for the first cleanse and I’ll likely run out of this very quickly.
- Price per ounce it’s very expensive.
I really wanted to like Milky Jelly, but sadly it let me down. I’ll continue to use it until it runs out, but I don’t think I will be repurchasing this again. Although I am a bit let down, I am not deterred from the brand overall! I love the Haloscope highlighter and I really want to try some of Glossier’s other products, I will just be crossing this off my list.
